Colleagues at Contact Originators bid a fond farewell, ‘adios’ and a happy retirement to Technical Sales Manager David Mason today (4 November), as he retires to the sunny climes of Spain with his wife Helen.
David, who is one of the company’s longest serving employees, has worked in the flexographic print industry for more than 35 years. Beginning his career at BA Chambers in Glasgow as an apprentice hand engraver, David moved to Stepney’s of London in 1970, then became Managing Director of Excel Graphics & Forms for a number of years before joining Contact Originators.
Steve Mulcahy, CEO Contact Originators Group, said that over his long career David had seen many changes in both printing technology and artwork origination and platemaking, while developing such strong relationships and friendships with so many people that his address book reads like a ‘who’s who?’ in the world of printing.
“David can recount and relate to many a story and incident from across his long career, and he has always looked to impart his incredible knowledge to younger members of the Contact team whenever he could,” said Steve. “When I first started in the industry, David helped me find my way in the flexo industry and both implement and support the changes within the Contact Group.
“He will be sorely missed for sure, but he leaves a legacy including a comprehensive library of print training modules and videos that we will use and benefit from for many years to come.”
During a small ceremony this week, David was presented with a bottle of his favourite tipple as a token of appreciation as colleagues at Contact said their personal goodbyes.
“In these testing times and with the second national lockdown coming into force from Thursday, unfortunately it was not possible to give David a night to remember and the send-off he deserves with colleagues and customers alike,” added Steve. “But I have promised David and everyone here at team Contact that when the virus is under control and David makes a visit to the UK, we will invite him back to say goodbye properly to all his customers and colleagues.”
Steve added that David would be hosting his own table of invited guests at next year’s EFIA Awards, scheduled to be held in York in May, 2021, in order to say his final goodbyes to the industry.
