Contact Originators is one of the first reprographics and platemaking businesses in the UK to become a member of SEDEX – and has been part of this global initiative for more than a decade.
SEDEX is a collaborative platform for supply chain assessment, to store, analyse, share, and report on sustainability practices – designed to create and share best practice techniques.
Within the first 12 months of occupying our 32,000ft² supersite facility in Dukinfield, we achieved a milestone of zero waste to landfill.
Waste generated during platemaking is responsibly managed, with a dedicated waste management partner collecting and incinerating our waste, channelling its energy back into circulation.
In 2022, Contact Originators created a verified paperless production environment.
The initiative saves over 300,000 sheets of paper over the course of a year, equivalent to the felling of thirty 45ft pine tree trunks each year.
We use the key principles that form the BRC guidelines for packaging and packaging materials.
Contact Originators has a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) trained team of Lead Auditors, with extensive experience of BRC Packaging Materials, as well as the pharmaceutical packaging materials standard PS9000.
Collaborating with suppliers and partners through the supply chain, we are working to actively minimise waste in all its forms.
In addition to reducing our energy use, this includes a concerted effort to reduce single use or non-recyclable plastics on deliveries that arrive at Contact.
Our 24,000-litre super still, known to the team as Goliath, is a testament to our team’s commitment to innovation.
The largest platemaking still in Europe, Goliath is heated by steam instead of oil, representing a significant investment and a conscious step towards enhanced sustainability.
Our Dukinfield supersite is designed to operate at high efficiency and performance, while taking advantage of low-energy technologies.
For example, our site is illuminated by motion-activated LED lighting, significantly reducing our daily energy consumption of energy, and reinforcing our commitment to reducing carbon output.
Contact Originators believes that environmentally-aware origination can go hand in hand with performance excellence. We invest in cutting-edge equipment and advanced technologies to support our customers.
Contact Originators boasts one of the most well-equipped prepress sites found anywhere, serving as a beacon of sustainability and efficiency in large-scale packaging operations across Europe.
We take it upon ourselves to lead by example as a core prepress service supplier to the packaging printing industry. To accomplish that, our focus extends beyond our individual footprint and into how we can positively influence the wider printing industry. We strive to elevate sustainability across the entirety of our supply chains, ensuring key benefits for our customers and their stakeholders.
